Breyanah’s Portfolio Building Q’s & A’s

  • Question: What is the most important thing I should consider before I start my portfolio?
  • Answer: Consider choosing the right type of modeling that you wish to do or fit in best. For example theres runway, nude, plus size, petite, fashion, editorial, cosplay and so much more.
  • Question: Do I need to work with more than one photographer?
  • Answer: Yes! You will both need and want different styles, angles, and lighting for your images. Too much of the same thing is boring. Plus by working with various photographers will help broaden your clientele.
  • Question: How do I pick the right photographer?
  • Answer: In order to pick the right photographer first you will need to do a little research and background checking. Look photographers up on google and or social media sites like instagram and facebook that specialize in advertising and working with agency’s and magazines. Be sure to ask to see their work, make sure they are local, and make sure they airnt scammers.
  • Question: Do I need to chose a agency photographer?
  • Answer: No! A agency photographer isnt needed for your photoshoots unless youre a signed model and or being paid to shoot with one. I wouldnt take the chance of contacting one because they tend to over charge and or only work with professional models in representation.
  • Question: Can I have a friend that is good with a good camera take my pictures?
  • Answer: Sure! why not…if your friend is a camera wiz and the two of you can create some magic on set I say go for it. (Plus its safer this way). You know your friend isnt a scammer or predator.
  • Question: Do I really need a makeup artist?
  • Answer: Yes! you will always need a professional makeup artist on set unless youre one yourself or simple doing a “no makeup” look! Your face is everything when it comes to your photos because it is the first thing people see and bad makeup looks show up on camera.(Not a good look)!
  • Question: What kind of clothing should I wear?
  • Answer: When doing your portfolio digitals agencys request that you wear all black fitted clothing or blue jeans with a white fitted top so that they can see your full body type and size for consideration. Remember to never over due it (no jewlary or crazy colorful hair and makeup allowed)!
  • Question: Should I include any photos with no makeup?
  • Answer: Certainly! This is a very important must have when seeking representation because they like to see what and who they are working with and how they can shape and mold you into what they invision you to be.
  • Question: How many photos do I need in my modeling portfolio?
  • Answer: Your personal portfolio should have a minimum of 6 photos and a max of 20 but no more then 20 images. Agencys get bored/uninterested with seeing too many photos and are often too busy to view them all. Stack the top best in the beginning of the book and your least favs in the back.
  • Question: How large should the photos be?
  • Answer: Your Port Should Be 8×10 being the smallest and the next up being 9×12 and the largest being 11×14.
  • Question: Where can I get a modeling portfolio book?
  • Answer: Amazon, Walmart, Staples
  • Question: Should all of my images be in color?
  • Answer: No! This isnt a must. Black and Whites are highly recommended as well as color. It shows dimensions and separation and mood changes..
